DAVID DUVALL CELEBRATES THE SONGS OF IRVING BERLIN
For his monthly presentation on May 19, David Duvall will present a very informative and entertaining celebration of the songs of the legendary composer, IRVING BERLIN. Berlin is considered the “father of the American song,” since he helped shape how popular songs have been written since the very early 1900’s. He is most well known as the creator of WHITE CHRISTMAS and GOD BLESS AMERICA, but he wrote 1500+ other songs, including BLUE SKIES, LET’S FACE THE MUSIC AND DANCE, EASTER PARADE, PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ, WHAT’LL I DO?, I LOVE A PIANO and CHEEK TO CHEEK… and so many more. Berlin received EIGHT Oscar nominations for his film songs (winning for WHITE CHRISTMAS), a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, TWO Tony Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Duvall’s special guests for this concert will be PV favorites, Stephanie Watts Wright (who portrays “Donna” in MAMMA MIA!) and Broadway veteran David Sabella – who recently joined the ACT2 administration staff. As usual, Duvall will also be joined by the father/son duo of Danny Lopez on bass and DannyJu Lopez on drums.
Before moving to Puerto Vallarta, Duvall performed in countless nightclubs and theatres across the US, and has been described as “a gifted story-teller in both song and backstage stories,” with a “smooth, rich voice,” who is “among the great interpreters of Cole Porter’s lyric.” After 45 years of studying/arranging/singing the works of these iconic writers, Duvall has gained an incredible insight into this type of music. His unique ability to share stories and anecdotes about the writers and their creations is reminiscent of Bobby Short’s renowned performances at New York City’s Cafe Carlyle. Tickets for this one-time-only concert are available at www.act2pv.com.
